Actress Mita Noor’s husband was involved in
extra-marital affairs with two of her close friends. A devoted wife,
Mita could not meekly accept this situation and thus had to endure
physical abuse many times. Even after all this, Mita wanted to keep her
family together. But at last she was forced to take her own life to
protect her self-respect. The information was given by some of Mita’s
close friends.
Meanwhile, Shahnoor Rahman Rana claimed his
relationship with his wife was excellent. Mita loved him very much. He
never even imagined Mita could leave him like this. He also denied
having any affair with anyone close to Mita.
One of Mita’s close friends said Mita often
complained to her about suffering physical violence for protesting her
husband’s extra-marital affairs. She was involved with a charity named
Manab Kalyan Society for two years. Two years ago Mita Noor lodged a
police complaint against her husband. That time Rana avoided jail by
apologizing to Mita and promising to mend his ways. But within a few
months he resumed his extra-marital affairs. He used to get drunk and
beat Mita up at home.
Mita often called her friends and asked them to visit her at home. She made one such request last Saturday.
Another friend said Mita was a wonderful woman. On
January 5 Mita Noor appeared in a television programme titled
‘Controlling adulterated food and media’s role’. At one point during the
programme Mita Noor fell ill. The friend said she was taken ill because
of the beating and torture she had endured from her husband the
previous night.
Mita’s close friends and relatives said she was
forced to commit suicide. Once she had decided to get separated from her
husband but later changed her decision at her elder son’s request.
Last Tuesday a memorial service was held at Manab
Kalyan Society’s Motijheel office. Executive Magistrate Rokon-Ud-Dowla,
who is also an adviser to the Society, spoke at the service along with
other members of the Society. They also asked the authorities to
investigate whether Mita Noor was incited to commit suicide and bring
the inciter to justice.
