Popular music awards introduces new categories

The Global Indian Music Academy (GIMA) Awards, which have positioned themselves as a platform to honor mainstream as well as alternative music is expanding its repertoire of honors.
This year, GIMA has added three new categories, making it a total of 13 awards in the non-film music categories and 11 awards for film music. In the latter category, there is a new award for the Best Duet whereas in the former, there are two new honors - one for Best Electronic Dance Music (EDM) Track and another for Best Indie Single.

Sabbas Joseph, director, Wizcraft International, GIMA organizers told, "With the introduction of the new categories, we hope to receive a wider and more diverse range of entries that reflect the pulse of the music scene in the country."

Commenting on the new development, singer Sonu Nigam said, "I am eager to see the nominations in the non-film categories as they really open up opportunities for musicians who work outside of the film industry."

The Global Indian Music Academy (GIMA) Awards, a popular platform for recognition and felicitation of Indian musicians. This year, the show was hosted by the Pretty Zinta and sparkling Parineeti Chopra.

Winners at the 2013 The Global Indian Music Academy (GIMA) Awards:

  • Best Music Arranger and Programmer: Shankar /Ehsaan /Loy – Senorita
  • Best Lyricist: Irshad Kamil – Nadaan Parinde (Rockstar)
  • Best Music Debut: Ayushmann Khurrana (Singer) – Pani Da Rang (Vicky Donor)
  • Best Film Song: Chammak Challo (Ra.One)
  • Best Playback Singer Female: Nandini Srikar for Bhare Naina (Ra.One)
  • Best Playback Singer Male: A. R. Rahman, Javed Ali, Mohit Chauhan – Kun Faya Kun (Rockstar)
